Micro-suction has become a preferred method of ear wax removal amongst medical professionals and patients alike. Micro-suction involves a fine suction tube gently inserted into the ear canal whilst being viewed closely through magnification. Micro-suction does not require pre-treatment with olive oil but if you can use a few drops the night before your treatment it will help make the removal process a lot easier. In cases with impacted ear wax we may suggest using Sodium Bicarbonate drops, but we can advise.
Using drops may make your hearing or symptoms a little worse at first before getting better. These can help soften the earwax so that it falls out naturally. There are several different types of eardrops you can use, including drops containing sodium bicarbonate, olive oil or almond oil

Using micro suction for ear wax removal is safe and painless. Water irrigation techniques are a thing of the past, even if you are suffering with impacted ear wax we will only use micro suction for your safety. Impacted wax can take a little more time to remove, but if you regularly use Earol to soften the wax prior to your ear wax appointment with us, then this will greatly help. In some cases you may need more than one visit but this is rare.
